The Network Marketing Leadership Shift: From Participant to "I RUN THIS"
What separates someone who participates in a business from someone who truly leads one? That question is at the heart of one of my recent LifeWave leadership trainings, “The Shift to 1-Star Director: From Participant to I RUN THIS!”, presented in Orlando.
As an Elite Senior Presidential Director, the highest leadership rank at LifeWave, I've had the honor of being invited to speak and train at multiple LifeWave events and conventions. These opportunities have allowed me to share the leadership principles, business-building strategies, and lessons I've learned throughout my journey.
This particular global virtual training is one of my favorite messages because it addresses something I believe every network marketer entrepreneur eventually faces: the moment you stop simply participating in your business and decide to take ownership of it. And that decision can change everything.
The Leadership Shift That Changes Everything
One of the most important messages I shared during this training is that reaching 1-Star Director (or your next big rank in any company) is about much more than achieving another rank. It's about a change in identity, mindset, and responsibility. There's a difference between learning how to build a business and actually stepping into the role of someone who leads one. In the training, I challenge Brand Partners to evaluate how they're showing up:
Are you watching others create momentum, or are you creating it yourself?
Are you waiting for direction, or are you developing the confidence to give it?
Are you simply building a team, or are you developing leaders who can build leaders?
Because leadership begins long before you feel completely ready!!
Why Building Leaders Is More Powerful Than Building Followers
One of the biggest mistakes I see in network marketing is confusing helping people with doing everything for them. I believe in providing mentorship, resources, training, and meaningful support. But there's a difference between empowering someone and creating dependency.
In this Orlando training, I discuss why developing independent leaders is critical to building a sustainable organization. I also share an important lesson from my own LifeWave journey: creating leverage through leadership development, rather than relying solely on your individual efforts.
This is where I dive into the importance of mentorship, duplication, and building a leadership culture that allows your organization to grow beyond your personal activity.
The goal isn't to become the person everyone depends on. The goal is to help others become leaders themselves.
Leadership Is a Daily Decision
Another major part of this presentation introduces what I call the 1-Star Director Code — a collection of leadership principles that I believe are essential for anyone serious about building a lasting network marketing business.
Some of those principles include:
Lead while you learn. You don't have to know everything before you begin leading.
Protect your time like a professional. Being busy and being productive are two very different things.
Build leaders, not dependency. Give people the tools and confidence to take ownership.
Set the standard through your behavior. Your consistency, integrity, and work ethic influence your team's culture.
Keep it simple and duplicatable. Complicated systems are difficult to replicate.
Build with vision and lead for legacy. Focus on long-term leadership development rather than short-term wins.
One of the messages I emphasize is: “Duplication is a mirror!”
Your team often reflects the habits, standards, and leadership behaviors you demonstrate.
And that means becoming a stronger leader begins with looking at how you lead yourself.
Watch the Full LifeWave Leadership Training
These are just a few of the topics covered in my Orlando presentation. In the full training, I go deeper into the mindset shift required to become a 1-Star Director (or the next rank in your company), why the people you choose to build with matter, how to create leverage through leadership, and what it means to take true ownership of your business.
Whether you're working toward your first leadership rank, already developing a team, or looking to take your organization to another level, I encourage you to watch this session and evaluate where you are in your own leadership journey.
Are you still participating, or are you ready to say, “I RUN THIS!”?

Join Me, David Schmidt, Jay Shetty & Many More at LifeWave LUMINATE 2026 | October 15–18
I'm also excited to announce that I'll be speaking again at LifeWave's LUMINATE Global Convention, October 15–18, 2026! I'll be presenting on October 15, as well as speaking on October 18 during the THIS IS IT Team Post-Convention Training.
Having the opportunity to return to the stage and share what I've learned is something I'm incredibly grateful for. As a leader of the THIS IS IT Team, my mission has always been bigger than helping someone achieve a rank. It's about building confidence, developing leadership skills, creating duplicatable systems, and empowering people to build something meaningful.
From Participation to Leadership — Your Next Chapter Starts With You
If there's one message I hope people take away from this training, it's this:
You don't need to have everything figured out to start leading. You need to make the decision to take ownership, remain coachable, and grow into the leader you're capable of becoming.
Leadership isn't something that simply happens when you receive a title.
It's something you choose through your actions, your standards, your consistency, and your willingness to help others succeed. I look forward to continuing these conversations at LUMINATE 2026 and helping more LifeWave Brand Partners step into their next level of leadership.
